GUIDING INNOVATIONS,

FOSTERING PARTNERSHIPS

Mission

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Research Foundation (UWMRF) was formed to serve and support UWM faculty and student research through the fostering of corporate research partnerships; igniting UWM-founded startups through programs, funding, and education; and leveraging our intellectual property expertise to further support innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with our community and worldwide.

Vision

Attract funding and partners to advance, grow, and develop the innovation pipeline at UWM.

Furthering the development of knowledge

In 2016, UWM was designated as an R-1 research intensive university by the Carnegie Classification System of Higher Education. This places UWM among the top-tier research institutions in the United States. The UWMRF continues to help create an environment that attracts, retains, and supports innovative researchers who contribute to this important distinction by building and delivering programs that transform research and innovation at the UWM – including the Catalyst Grant program and an array of entrepreneurship and innovation programs.

What is tech transfer?

Technology transfer is the process of moving ideas from the laboratory to the commercial marketplace. The UWM Research Foundation assists researchers in connecting with the private sectors through corporate sponsored research projects, research collaborations, and the spin-out of technology.

The UWMRF also collaborates with other technology transfer offices in the Milwaukee region to promote technology transfer and the commercialization of technologies. The following videos provide a basic introduction to eight technology transfer topics. The videos were developed by key technology transfer professionals through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin.
