The UWM Research Foundation (UWMRF) is an independent non-profit corporation existing to support research, innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). The UWM Research Foundation’s programs support promising research at UWM, the commercialization of technology, the creation of new startup companies and the development of entrepreneurial skills.
The UWM Research Foundation has also supported the launch of the Lubar Center for Entrepreneurship (LCE). The Lubar Center for Entrepreneurship is building programs and facilities to enhance the success of UWM students through entrepreneurial thinking skills while helping to create and grow new companies.
In order to continue its growth, the UWM Research Foundation is seeking a part-time Technology Transfer Associate. This individual will report to the UWM Research Foundation Senior Licensing Manager and the Licensing Associate.
Highlighted below are some of the position responsibilities.
Use various research tools through the UWM library and the Internet to gather information related to inventions;
Aid in the preparation of marketing materials, patenting materials, marketing outreach, and preparation of agreements;
Complete projects that include conducting research on companies and company contacts;
Learn how to use Inteum software for documenting all aspects of a technology;
Provide administrative aid for various projects related to marketing, which includes minutes of meetings, transcribing notes, and composing memos and agreements;
Prepare documents such as information disclosure statements, assignments, and declarations for filed patents.
This individual must possess excellent communication skills, excellent writing and research skills, strong analytical abilities, and must be able to work in a self-directed and independent fashion. This individual will analyze new technologies and have the ability to apply research principles. The candidate must have effective presentation skills, the ability to acquire market research information, answer questions and suggest appropriate solutions. This individual will also have well-built skills in organization, prioritization, time management, minute attention to detail and the ability to interact in a professional fashion with all stakeholders.
A Bachelor’s degree in Science (Life Science, Physical Science, or Engineering preferred) or a non-science Bachelor’s Degree with related industry experience is required. An advanced degree, industry experience or patent experience will be favored.
