Furthering the development of knowledge

In 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) earned the prestigious R1 designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education—recognizing it as one of the nation’s top-tier research universities. What is tech transfer?

Technology transfer is the process of transforming innovative ideas and research discoveries into real‑world products, services, and companies. At the UWM Research Foundation (UWMRF), we help bridge the gap between academic research and industry by supporting faculty and researchers as they move their technologies toward commercial application.

Through corporate‑sponsored research partnerships, collaborative projects with industry, and the launch of new startup ventures, UWMRF connects UWM innovations with the private sector to drive economic growth and societal impact.

UWMRF also works closely with other technology transfer offices and innovation partners across the Milwaukee region to strengthen the ecosystem and accelerate the commercialization of breakthrough technologies.
